SoftWave® acoustic tissue regeneration – one tool in a plan built to get you moving again.
Some pain doesn’t respond to rest. A tendon that’s been sore for months. A shoulder that never quite settled. A knee that flares every time you get back to training. SoftWave® (SoftWave Tissue Regeneration / TRT) is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic waves to stimulate the body’s own repair response in soft tissue. At Keel Spine & Performance it’s one part of a care plan, not a standalone fix.
SoftWave delivers broad-focused acoustic waves through the skin into the tissue beneath. Rather than concentrating energy at a single point the way traditional shockwave devices do, it spreads that energy across a wider area. The manufacturer lists FDA-cleared indications for relief of minor muscle aches and pains, activation of connective tissue, and a temporary increase in local blood circulation.
It’s non-invasive. No injections, no anesthesia, no incisions, no downtime. Most sessions take around fifteen to twenty minutes and you can drive yourself home afterwards.
What it’s commonly used for
It isn’t right for everything. A fracture, a severe disc herniation, or a compressed nerve won’t respond the way irritated soft tissue does. That’s why every course of SoftWave at Keel starts with a proper evaluation, not with the device.
Your provider locates the area by hand, applies gel, and moves the applicator across the tissue for several minutes. Most patients describe it as deep pressure or a mild ache rather than sharp pain. You’re back to your day straight afterwards.
Tissue repair happens gradually, so treatment is usually a series of sessions spaced roughly a week apart. Your provider will tell you what’s realistic for your specific problem before you commit to anything.
At Keel, SoftWave sits inside our Table-to-Turf model a tool alongside structural chiropractic care, dry needling and soft-tissue work, and active rehabilitation in the Performance Lab. The tissue gets treated, and the movement pattern that stressed it in the first place gets corrected, so the problem is less likely to come back.
That’s possible because of who is under one roof: a chiropractor, a doctor of physical therapy, and a certified athletic trainer, working the same case rather than in separate offices. When SoftWave is in your plan, you’re still getting a Keel read on why the tissue broke down structure, soft tissue, and how you move not a device appointment in isolation.
Keel is a direct-care clinic. We don’t bill insurance, which means care decisions are made between you and your clinician rather than a claims department. SoftWave is HSA and FSA eligible, and we provide an itemised superbill on request if you want to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

It’s a form of extracorporeal shockwave therapy. The difference is the wave pattern. SoftWave uses broad-focused waves that cover a wider area, rather than the focused, single-point energy of traditional shockwave devices.
No. SoftWave uses acoustic pressure pulses. Therapeutic ultrasound uses continuous sound-wave oscillation. Different technologies, different effects.
Most people feel deep pressure or a mild ache during treatment. It shouldn’t be sharp. Some mild soreness the next day is normal, similar to how muscles feel after a workout.
It varies with the condition and how long it’s been there. Many plans run several sessions about a week apart. You’ll get a realistic estimate at your evaluation, not a guess.
Usually, with some adjustments. Your provider will tell you what to modify based on your injury and your goals.

SoftWave at Keel is provided by Dr. Nolan Gallagher, DC, as part of your care plan.
That’s how we use it. SoftWave addresses the tissue. Adjustment and rehab address the mechanics that stressed it. Together they hold better than either on its own.
